As the Soviet Union descends into a bloody civil war and the world is thrown into chaos, melancholy civil servant Michael Fernsby feels powerless to help from his desk job in the British Ministry of Defence.
When a mysterious prisoner is rescued from Eastern Europe and brought to London, Michael is sent to debrief him. But the strange man he meets remembers another version of the world; one in which the Cold War ended peacefully and things are very different.
And he desperately wants to change everything back.
